Ah, puns. It's been too long. But, now, the news. And it's cool:
The supersmart people at Feedburner have partnered with the supersmart people at Flickr to allow RSS-enabled publishers to "splice" photos and weblog posts into one chronological stream, thereby creating the first of what I'm sure will be many different flavors of synthetic feed. Slice it, dice it, splice it, what have you. All the tools are coming together nicely, I must say. It's seems like a really great time to be a publisher of periodic content. Here's some flavor from the press release:
The launch of the splicing service demonstrates the promise and potential of syndication services. Individuals now have the ability to use favorite and specific publishing tools for different media, while still providing a single source of content for their subscribers in syndication. Using this technology people could conceivably make dynamic screensavers or wallpaper for their computers that consists of only their friends' and family's photos and personal notes, like a virtual picture frame or refrigerator door that is constantly updated.
Wow, that sounds a lot like what Michael Sippey wanted just a few weeks ago (except he tabbed Ofoto instead of Flickr).
Hot damn. I love this stuff.
Update: Stewart from Flickr chimes in —
As for the rest of the story … well, you'll have to stay tuned. But we can say that we hope to lead the way to a promised land where there are aggregators everywhere: wherever there is a device with a display and a network connection, there is the opportunity to share the lives of the people you care about, as told in photos: digital picture frames, TVs and Media Center PCs, Tivos or Playstations, your mobile phone or PDA, and whatever crazy devices emerge over the next few years. Or the next few decades.

1. I've been using Feed burner for a few months now. And it's excellent - and no they did not pay me for saying this. But it's ability to convert different formats is excellent. It even has feed stats - which is great to know who is actually reading your stuff. I'm always shocked that i don't hear more about them!
