Mobile RSS is a pretty obvious replacement to the kludgey and closed Avantgo- who should be on RSS (just like Yahoo did) by now if they want to be around for any longer. Avantgo was the only place of refuge for PointCast devotees after that went away.
A new class of Mobile feed readers are being readied - many in early stage right now. Feedburner has a workable one, but it was crashing when I tried it a few weeks ago. Theoretically, this space should be much hotter than desktop feedreaders. Mobile devices love the content focused, layout independent, light weight nature of RSS feeds - perhaps RSS would be a way to renew the PDA mania.

1. Of course Bloglines is available in a mobile version which I find to be very usable, and even before that http://www.winksite.com had developed a very easy to use aggregator for mobile.
The Winksite aggregator might even have more features, and it comes with a bunch of other mobile tools (like the ability to mobile enable your website). Although this rich set of tools might even be what makes it a little less accessible to the average punter.
Both these options would be worth closer investigation.
Cheers
