We knew it was coming, and now the date has been set. September 19 is the day the RSS feed of the NY Times Op/Ed page will suddenly start to look different, as most of the paper's stable of columnists (including some metro and sports columnists) will be shifted to a subscription model. Fifty bucks a year for access. I love my Times Op/Ed feed. Will I dish out? Doubtful. I don't deny the quality or value, but there is just too much available in consumer-free models. Who has the time to even break out the credit card? I'm guessing a lot of people feel the same way. As link targets in the blogosphere, those columnists, carrying the Times brand, will fall right off the radar.
